The technology sector can be illogical and infuriating, but it does move at a rocket-propelled pace…

Following the grand unveiling of its Windows 7-based Slate in March, HP then promptly nailed its colors to the mast of webOS when it bought Palm.  It now appears the company has abandoned the Slate altogether.

Technologizer spoke with HP at The Big Money’s Untethered conference June 17 and specifically chased up info on the Slate with company CTO Phil KcKinney. Strangely, McKinney refused to talk about “unreleased products,” despite HP’s previous bombastic proclamations about it, but did spend his time praising webOS as an ideal tablet platform – you do the math.

All of which ties in tightly with what we were discussing about in the recent post about Samsung Tape: manufacturers are abandoning attempts to replicate a PC experience on tablets, and instead are turning them into giant smartphones with 3G connectivity, using mobile OSes like webOS, Google Android and – in the case of Apple – iOS (formerly iPhone OS).

Consequently, this only strengthens our argument that the wait for smartbooks is over: they simply lost their keyboards along the way.
